Saint Barnabas Monastery (Aziz Barnabas Manastırı)

St. Aziz Barbanabas was born into a Jewish family in Salamis. After studying in Jerusalem, he returned back to Cyprus to spread Christianity in the island and the partnership between St. Barnabas and St. Paul began. This action angered many citizens which caused St. Barnabas getting killed by his own people and was hidden in an underground cave. His body couldn’t be found until 432 A.D. when Archbishop Anthemios had a dream of where the grave was and ordered for it to be dug out in order to identify St. Barnabas. The monastery was built on where he was found and toady it known as Saint Barnabas Monastery.
